In light of the evolving situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus), following the CDC’s latest guidelines to cancel or postpone gatherings of 10 or more people, we will be transitioning the Annual Meeting to a fully virtual event. 

We also considered postponing or cancelling the meeting altogether, but decided to move ahead with it on the basis of two compelling arguments:

  • As it is hard to predict when we’ll be able to meet again in person, the virtual approach allows us to stay on target with setting goals and priorities for the year, while practicing physical distancing recommended by leading health authorities;
  • What we learn now can be very useful for how we convene in the future, especially as severe weather becomes more and more a reality and our wish to limit our carbon impact increases.

To allow all Exchange members who wish to participate ample time to plan and to optimize attendance despite the unpredictable circumstances, we are extending the registration deadline to April 1st, 2020.

Do you want to play a leading role in transforming Washington DC’s built environment to make the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers fishable and swimmable? Are you interested in leading the team implementing DOEE’s innovative stormwater management regulations, which, over the past 6 years, have resulted in approved designs for Green Infrastructure to manage runoff from more than 850 acres of the District’s land area? If so, this may be the job for you!

The DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is seeking a Branch Chief to lead our Building Permit Plan Review Branch. The incumbent oversees development, implementation, and revision of policies, regulations, guidance documents, and programs to protect and restore District waterbodies. Specifically, the incumbent manages the implementation of DOEE’s erosion and sediment control (ESC), stormwater management (SWM), and green area ratio (GAR) regulations. This includes supervision of technical plan and permit reviews for these regulations and related regulations, as well as development of guidance for the regulated community on complying with these regulations. The incumbent also oversees the revision of existing regulations and guidance and the development of new regulations and guidance to improve the protection and restoration of the District’s environment, as well as to enhance Branch business operations and customer service. The incumbent, who must be a Professional Engineer (PE), oversees technical training and professional development for engineers working toward their PE and other staff in the Branch. The incumbent also oversees external outreach and training to engineers, architects, landscape architects, and other green infrastructure professionals in the private sector and the District and federal governments. The incumbent is responsible for developing and improving business processes to implement Branch programs and to interface with other DOEE programs that rely on information from Branch review of ESC, SWM, and GAR plans.

The work involves managing local revenue funding and associated budgets. The incumbent coordinates closely with and acts as a liaison to other DOEE branches and divisions and other District of Columbia Government agencies, as well as regional and federal agencies, and local developers and environmental stakeholders. The incumbent represents the agency at meetings and conferences as an expert on programs related to the Branch’s work and related initiatives, as appropriate.

DOEE seeks a candidate with expertise in management and administration who has strong writing and communication skills. It is important that the incumbent have the demonstrated ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, including in the environmental and development communities and with federal regulators. This includes the ability to effectively listen to, understand, and reconcile conflicting points of view and incorporate solutions into programs and policies as appropriate.

The Partners for Places matching grants program has helped foster dozens of new partnerships between local government sustainability leaders and place-based funders nationwide and in Canada over the past eight years. The matching grant program fosters collaborations between national funder investors and place-based funders to facilitate the pursuit of local sustainability and climate action initiatives.

We’re seeking a temporary administrative professional to join our team from January through May 2020, with possibility to extend the position. This is a contracted hourly position that will require an estimated 10 hours/week in January and subsequently evolve to 30-40 hours/week thereafter. 

This position is preferably located in Philadelphia and involves working with both local and remote staff. Attendance at the Exchange’s Annual Conference held May 3-6, 2020 in Atlanta, GA will also be required. 

The essential functions of this role center around the provision of support to the Director and other staff in a systems administration as well as event-planning capacity, with emphasis on: 

  • Supporting the planning and execution of our Annual Meeting and
  • Supporting the scheduling of conference calls, meetings, webinars, and events across all Workgroups, Committees, and Collaboration Grant projects for our members, as well as collecting and tracking information related to these activities
