Welcome the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to the Exchange!

At TRCA, Daniel Filippi serves as a Program Manager overseeing a range of green infrastructure and sustainability initiatives, while Christine Lundsgaard-Nielsen works as an Analyst summarizing monitoring data for GI projects and developing online Low Impact Development (LID) resources for their Wiki platform. Together, they bring both implementation and data-driven expertise to their work.

TRCA is currently developing a comprehensive Wiki page featuring green infrastructure design drawings to provide clearer construction guidance. Through the Exchange, they hope to connect with peers who can share project examples, lessons learned, and practical insights to strengthen this resource.

One of TRCA’s recent collaborative efforts involves partnering with a local municipality to assess the performance of two stormwater management initiatives addressing runoff and drainage challenges. The first is a stormwater management facility (SWMF) managing runoff from a 7.82-hectare area, featuring a constructed wetland designed with active storage capacity for up to a 100-year storm event, providing both erosion control and water quality treatment. The second is a bioswale constructed in 2022 to improve drainage across a 28-hectare area spanning both public and private lands. Over the past three years, TRCA has collected monitoring data to evaluate performance and maintenance needs, helping to reduce runoff impacts on local waterways.

Looking ahead, TRCA is excited about advancing and standardizing green infrastructure design and construction practices. They are eager to contribute construction, inspection, and maintenance tools and guidelines that support more consistent and effective GI implementation.
