Learning That Moves GSI Practice Forward

Build the knowledge, skills, and connections to advance green stormwater infrastructure practice. The Exchange brings GSI practitioners together to learn, experiment, solve real-world challenges, and lead change in their communities.

Learn, Practice, Lead

At the Green Infrastructure Leadership Exchange, we believe some of the most valuable learning happens when practitioners learn with and from one another. Our educational offerings bring together the knowledge and experience of GSI practitioners to build skills, explore challenges, exchange ideas, and turn learning into action.

Peer learning is at the heart of our approach. Through communities of practice, Learning Circles, events, and collaborative projects, practitioners learn together, share what works, work through real-world challenges, and discover new approaches to advancing green stormwater infrastructure.

Learning also happens through collaboration beyond scheduled programs. Exchange members frequently work together on projects that advance GSI practice, producing practical resources and guides that are shared with the broader community through our Resources Page.

Our educational programming includes practice-based learning, peer learning, custom Learning Circles, and customized trainings designed around the needs and context of your organization. Whether you’re looking to explore a challenge with peers, develop practical skills, or build a customized learning experience for your team, our programs are designed to be learner-centered, action-oriented, and grounded in the realities of GSI practice.

The Community Platform connects members to this learning ecosystem, providing a place to discover upcoming events, participate in discussions before and after events, share resources, and build relationships with GSI practitioners across the U.S. and Canada.

Monthly Offerings

Join us each month to hear about innovations in the field and discover how GSI is being implemented to make communities stronger and healthier. Exchange webinars are eligible for CEUs, and you can register via the Community Platform.

Our new learning circle format puts real-life GSI challenges at the center of the discussion. This is an opportunity for members to share a challenge they are facing in their city and experience cross-sector consultation.

Each Learning Circle meets monthly:

  • Local Governments and Nonprofit Water Agencies
  • GSI Maintenance
  • GSI on Private Property
  • GSI Workforce Development
  • Using GSI to Advance Sustainability & Climate Resilience

Check out the learning circle schedule and register via the Community Platform.

New in Fall 2026:

We are now recruiting for The Catalyst Program, a one-year, peer learning program to help local governments in the early stages of developing a GSI program jumpstart their efforts.

Custom Learning

Every organization has different people, practices, challenges, and learning needs. We design learner-centered, practice-based learning experiences tailored to your organization’s goals, workforce, and context.

Working alongside Exchange staff and experienced GSI practitioners, we can design and deliver custom programs that help participants build knowledge, develop practical skills, and apply what they learn to real-world GSI challenges.

Programs can be delivered online, in person, or through a blended approach and can range from a concentrated two-day experience to a multi-month learning engagement. We work with you to determine the right format, pace, and level of customization for your organization.

Custom learning can include:

  • Hands-on training grounded in real-world GSI work
  • Scenario-based learning that develops judgment, troubleshooting, and decision-making
  • Field-based learning and site visits
  • Facilitated peer learning and problem-solving
  • Job aids and other performance-support tools
  • Learning pathways that combine multiple experiences over time
  • Assessments that focus on demonstrating competence, not just acquiring knowledge

Tell us what your team needs to be able to do, and we’ll help design the learning experience to get them there.

Contact the Education Manager if you would like to discuss a custom training or learning program for your organization.
