Over 60% of Exchange members are public sector practitioners seeking to advance the practice of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) in the face of incredible expectations, including that of managing assets strategically. The 2025 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure bears this out, concluding that unreliable or unavailable data on key performance indicators negatively impacts the stormwater infrastructure sector. The report notes that “[d]ata – publicly available, routine and reliable — should be standard … to target investments and allow decisionmakers to wisely allocate limited funding to needs. Through enhanced data, both efficiency and effectiveness of assets can be achieved.”
To achieve the end of securing routine, reliable data to assess the quality of assets, we need to advance our understanding and use of asset management concepts. This is a primary goal of the Strategic Stormwater Asset Management Tools and Guidance Project, a partnership between the Green Infrastructure Leadership Exchange, HDR and Arcadis.
Phase 1 of the project is to survey municipalities and stormwater authorities, including all of the Exchange’s public sector members and prospects, about their current GSI asset management practices. If you are the primary member representative for your municipality or stormwater authority, you will receive the survey shortly and we are counting on your response to advance this important work. Our hope is to share the results in early 2026. If you have questions about the survey, please reach out to Nina Baldwin, Program Manager, at nina@giexchange.org.
