We’re excited to welcome Juncus Studio, a Portland-based landscape architecture firm focused on parks, schoolyards, streetscapes, habitat restoration, and green infrastructure. Founder and Principal, Dave Elkin, brings a collaborative approach to design and project strategy, working closely with public agencies and community partners.
Juncus Studio’s recent work includes the Portland Public Schools RISE Schoolyards initiative, which is moving from vision planning into phased implementation. The initiative will transform predominantly paved school grounds through depaving, expanded tree canopy, habitat and stormwater improvements, and more inclusive outdoor learning and play spaces. To date, the team has completed 14 vision plans, with 8 more planned over the next year.
This work is being developed in close partnership with Portland Public Schools, students, families, school communities, technical consultants, public agencies, and funding partners. Meaningful student engagement has been particularly important in connecting infrastructure and climate-resilience goals with the everyday experience of each school community.
We’re especially excited to have Juncus Studio join the Exchange to share lessons from this work and learn from peers tackling the practical challenges of implementing green infrastructure at scale—from funding and maintenance to long-term performance and building durable public support.
