Please join the Exchange in welcoming MAPC to membership! Rachel Bowers (left), a Regional Planning Data Analyst, and Kat Kobylt (right), an Environmental Planner are key players in the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC)’s efforts to enhance climate resilience in the Greater Boston area. Kat’s work focuses on community-led planning to integrate climate mitigation and adaptation efforts, with a particular passion for green infrastructure projects. Rachel supports these initiatives by providing data-driven insights to help municipalities make informed decisions for reducing carbon footprints and preparing for climate change.
Both Kat and Rachel are enthusiastic about participating in the Exchange. They aim to leverage the Exchange to gain and share knowledge, especially on equitable approaches to GSI, aligning with MAPC’s values and goals.
Recently, the Environment and Data Services departments collaborated to create an equity-centered Green Stormwater Infrastructure Siting Tool. This innovative tool aids communities in meeting stormwater management requirements while considering a broad range of benefits. The project involved partnerships with five Greater Boston municipalities and several local watershed organizations, ensuring a well-rounded and interdisciplinary approach.
Looking ahead, Kat and Rachel are eager to develop more resources and foster regional collaborations. They plan to equip municipalities with best practices for green infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance, while also enhancing community engagement and education efforts.
The Exchange is eager to learn more on how MAPC continues to drive forward climate resilience and green infrastructure initiatives in the Greater Boston region! Membership in the Exchange is open to professionals from the public, private, nonprofit, and education sectors who are committed to equitable GSI implementation.
